an old sweet song...

We’re standing at the threshold
And I don’t mean to be dramatic
But it’s such a momentous occasion to be leaning forward
Just about to tumble over the edge
Into such blissful gut wrenched ecstasy
And it will be paradise, melodic
And in the end I’ll be heartless and a little bruised from this collision
But…

Let’s not look down
Let’s not look back
Let’s hold gently
Onto tiny grains of sand
Cuz what we got is a little piece of splendor
Too dazzling for this unkind world to behold
Let’s believe in love
Let’s glory in tacky, starry-eyed clichés
Cuz what we got is a little piece of brilliance
Too stunning, too beautiful to hide away from the world

I’ve never been one for writing love songs
I’ve got an iron cage around my heart
But you’ve messed up who I used to want to be
Cuz I just want to be the person who stands and crumbles next to you
And all the wounds are still alive, the cuts still running deep
But you take the sting, the edge off my flawed existence
